Solombala is a historical district of Arkhangelsk. It stretches along the Solombala Islands in the delta of the Northern Dvina River, being connected with the central part of the city by Kuznechevskiy Bridge. Solombala is the "pearl" of Arkhangelsk. Today, it partially retains the features of the old Admiralty Quarter. In 1693, Peter I founded a shipyard on Solombala Island and laid the keel for the construction of the first in Arkhangelsk merchant vessel Saint Paul, which he personally participated in launching of the following year.
