Red Quay, so beloved by residents, is a place merchant and fishing ships used to moor at and high latitude expeditions set sail from – North Pole expedition guided by G. Sedov and the Northern Sea Route on the A. Sibiryakov icebreaker. Bust monument to polar researchers, huge anchors and the sailing schooner by the Northern Maritime Museum remind visitors that there is every reason for Arkhangelsk to be called the “gate to the Arctic”.
