This new cathedral will be blessed in honor of our city’s patron saint Archangel Michael. As is well known, the city was built near the ancient Mikhailo-Arkhangelsky Monastery. Preparation for the building of the Mikhailo-Arkhangelsky Cathedral in Arkhangelsk began in 2005 with benediction of the Holiest Patriarch Aleksy II.  On November 21, 2008 the Bishop of Arkhangelsk and Kholmogoty Tikhon blessed the corner stone in the cathedral’s foundation.
      The height of the Cathedral up to the cross on the main dome is 64, 5 m. The new cathedral will hold up to 3 thousand people. New bells have been installed on the tower bells of the cathedral. The largest one – Blagovestnik – weights 6 tones 200 kg., and it is 2 m. 30 cm tall, the hammer weighs more than 200 kg.
      Construction of the cathedral has been made possible thanks to proceeds from all over the world -- from donations made by businesses, organizations, and private citizens in the region, and soon it will be one of Archangelsk's beauties.
      It will be blessed in honor of our city’s Patron Saint Archangel Michael.
