The works of many writers are connected with the city on Northern Dvina and North in general. Some of them, like E. Kokovin, have lived their whole life here, and their works have been devoted to their native land and to the destinies of northern people. Other names are well-known and Arkhangelsk appears in their biographies absolutely unexpectedly – remember A. Grin, S. Esenin, K. Simonov, V. Pikul. Many writes appeared in Arkhangelsk in the years of the Great Patriotic War and found stories for their work here. Among them is Y. German (“Young Russia”). V. Kaverin finished his novel “Two captains” here. And certainly Stepan Pisakhov, Boris Shergin and Fedor Abramov were born in the North and in its culture. A world-famous scientist M.V. Lomonosov is depicted only as a poet on a monument in Arkhangelsk – that is how he was seen by his contemporaries. In a literary museum among literary books by northern authors you can find works by Ioann Kronshtadsky. The route “Literary Arkhangelsk” will guide you to the places connected with life and work of famous poets and writers.
