The steamship “N.V. Gogol” is a two-decked American-type wheeled steamship which is the only one preserved in Russia and still in action. In 2011 itcelebratedits 100-yearanniversary. “Gogol” is a unique sight, an example of Russian shipbuilding reliability of which the Arkhangelsk region is especially proud.The steamship “Gogol” has a rich history. Its body and steam engine were constructed in 1911 in Nizhny Novgorod at the behest of the Northern Steamship Association. During the Civil and the Great Patriotic wars “Gogol” was used as a hospital and military transport, later it sailed on route “Veliki Ustyug – Arkhangelsk”. The last time it was repaired and reconstructed was in 1994-1996 in the Arkhangelsk region. Nowadays its sea worthiness is maintained by workers at the “Zvyezdochka” dockyard in Severodvinsk.There are 30 passenger cabins on board aimed to hold 53 passengers on the steamship, and each summer season it takes river cruises along the bank of the Northern Dvina. During such cruises you will have an opportunity to see a panoramic view of the city from the side of the river and enjoy the unique Arkhangelsk architecture from an unusual perspective.
